Daruhairu nursery school appeals for assistanceThursday, October 15, 2009 After a heavy downpour on the classroom blocks of Dairuhairu Community Nursery School in Brikama, Western Region, the community's Village Development Committee (VDC) is seeking assistance from potential government institutions, individuals as well as philanthropists and private institutions for the possible re-building of the structures. The destruction that was made by the storm on the structures had removed the roof of the buildings thereby rendering the place unsafe for children. Lamin Manka, assistant secretary general of Dairuhairu Village Development Committee said the destruction made on the two class room blocks and one office are beyond use . In the meantime, he added that the classes are currently taking place in a house own by somebody who is also demanding that they should leave the place because he wants to develop there. Manka disclosed that the current condition of the school have even compelled some parents to move their children to other nursery schools. Manka further observed that if support and assistance is timely given to them for the rebuilding of the structures, this will help lift the burden that is currently on them, sighting the fact that children who are attending the school are relatively young and cannot work for long distance to other schools.
