Dead fishes at Cape Point: NEA clarifiesThursday, October 27, 2011 The director of Technical Services Network at the National Environment Agency (NEA) has said that the many dead fishes found by the Old Cape Point river in Bakau on Tuesday are believed to have been dumped at the site. Momodou Kanteh told the Daily Observer Wednesday that when he received information about the presence of a large number of dead fish at the seaside, he visited the site with his programme officer and an environmental inspector in order to get firsthand information. He said they have taken pictures and collected samples of the fishes. “Stakeholders were duly informed and a multi-disciplinary meeting was convened at the NEA office but the fishes were believed to have been dumped at the site because if they were poisoned, then the other species and birds feeding from them would have been affected and might even die at the ground,” he noted. Kanteh disclosed that only two predominant species of fish were affected namely, Bonga fish and Yaboi. He added that the samples collected have been transferred to the Fisheries Laboratory for analysis. Author: by Momodou Faal | Media Actions See Also |
