Denmark-based Gambian donates to Mile II

Junkung Sawaneh, a Gambian based in Denmark Wednesday donated glasses, blood
pressure machine, scissors and thermometer to the inmates of Mile II State
The materials were handed over to Yaya P.Jarju, deputy director general of the Prisons Department during a presentation ceremony held at Prisons head office at Mile II, along the Banjul-Serrekunda Highway.
the materials, the donor, Sawaneh explained that he has been living in Denmark
for over 30 years and for the past 20 years he has been donating materials to
the inmates of Mile II.
Sawaneh disclosed that he initially donated sewing
machines and television sets to the inmates of Mile II. “I want the
inmates to be sewing bed sheets. I will pay them and the products they make
would be given to the hospitals across the country,” he remarked.
Receiving the items, Yahya P. Jarju,
deputy director general of the Prisons Department, said they came at the right
time, while urging others to come forward and assist the Prisons Department. He assured
the donor that the materials would be put into good use and appealed to him to
assist them with mattresses and carpentry materials for the inmates.
Alhaji Kalilu Jaiteh, a close friend ofSawaneh, thanked the latter for the initiative and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the donated materials. Nanneh Jones, also a close friend of Sawaneh; Superintendent Babucarr Jatta and Lamin Faal, all expressed similar sentiments.
