Thursday, January 22, 2009
The Scout George Guild of Denmark in The Gambia, in collaboration with the Boden Powell International Fellowship of Scouts and the Gambia Scout Association - yesterday presented mattresses, walking racks, nursing equipment, photo examining boards, wheel chairs, sitting scales and other items to the Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital in Bundung, at a ceremony held at the hospital premises in Bundung.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Saikou Ceesay, the administrator of the Jammeh Foundation for Peace Hospital, expressed his gratitude to the donors. He said the significance of the items cannot be over emphasised and that they will go a long way in uplifting the hospital and improve its capacity. He then revealed that the hospital is one of the most busiest health facilities in the country saying "over the past years, four thousand babies were born at the hospital".

For his part, Ousman Jatta, the acting chief scout commissioner, said this is not the first time they have donated to the JFP.. He used the occasion to thank Professor Yahya Jammeh, the Gambian leader, for uplifting the health sector especially for establishing many hospitals across the country. He then thanked the donors for their gesture.

For her part, Maimuna Bah-Trawally, of the Gambia Scout Association, expressed her delight with the donors and called on the recipients to make the best use of the items. Pa Omar Bojang, coordinator of the Scout George Guilds of Denmark in The Gambia expressed similar sentiments.  According to him, Bundung has a large population and every day, about 500 patients visit the hospital.

He described the donors as true friends of the hospital. Other speakers included Ousman Semega-Janneh and Abubakarr Krubally.
