Deputy Minister Kah visits URR agric field sites![]() Thursday, February 11, 2010 Momodou S Kah, the deputy minister of Agriculture recently visited the Upper River Region (URR) regional pest monitoring office situated at the village of Suduwol in Kantora District as part of his familiarisation tour of units under his purview. The village also hosts the region?s Nerica Farmers Association (NFA). Welcoming the deputy minister to the region, Alhaji Omar Khan, governor of the URR explained to the villagers, the reasons behind the tour. He commended the NFA for the diligent work they are rendering to the people of URR and urged others within the region to join the association as soon as possible so that URR can begin exporting rice to other regions of the country. For his part, Kah reaffirmed his department?s resolve to continue assisting the NFA. He also spoke at length about the transformation system in the Ministry. While reminding the people of the region that President Jammeh?s biggest ambition is agriculture, he urged the farmers to unite and collectively outline their problems through the regional agriculture department. Other speakers included Alhaji Kebil Jakuraka, the president of NFA, and Alhaji Bacho Ceesay, chief of Kantora District among others. Meeting with Regional Governor In a separate engagement, deputy minister Kah also met the regional governor, Alhaji Omar Khan at his office in Basse. He briefed the governor on the rationale behind the tour as advised by the Gambian leader who is also the minister of Agriculture.
