Desert Fridge project launched for NBR womenTuesday, June 02, 2009 Humanity First International, last Friday, launched Desert Fridge project in Numukunda and Gunjur in North Bank Region. The project was aimed at providing vegetable storage facilities for the women in the two communities. According to Amadou Bah, the project co-ordinator, Humanity First deemed it necessary to help rural women with such facilities, noting that market women lose lots of their produce due to lack of good storage facilities. He said with the provision of these desert fridges, they could store their vegetables for almost 15 days without going bad. Ndey Ndur, of Numukunda said they were joyous over the fridges. She said many times, when they bought vegetable from the market, if they did not use it that very day, it ended up spoilt. Mariama Touray of Gunjur thanked Humanity First International for the assistance, assuring that they will make best use of the desert fridges in the village. Sanbujang Touray, the vice chairman of the village development committee said the project will not only help the women in the community but also men. Author: by Modou Kanteh | Media Actions See Also |
