Disabled people need to be empowered - St. John's School for the Deaf principalMonday, May 11, 2009 Daniel J Mendy, the principal of the St. John's School for the Deaf, on Monday, told the Daily Observer newspaper that the disabled people face discrimination in many communities. He described such discrimination as inhumane, noting that the disabled should not be scorned. He explained that disabled people, like others, have potential, and revealed that currently a deaf person is attending Nusrat Senior School . He called on the government and the private sector to create more job opportunities for disabled people, adding that the chances for them in the job market are too low. Mendy also called on people to respect the disabled appealed to law makers to come up with strict laws that will ensure that all government institutions and other private institutions employ disabled people.
