Disappointed Namibia coach humble in defeat

Monday, September 06, 2010
Namibia coach Tom Saintfiet conceded the best team won after watching his depleted Brave Warriors succumbed to one of their humiliating defeats in the hands of Gambia Scorpions in the opening of their 2010 African Nations Cup qualifying campaign on Saturday.

In the words of a resigned man, the Belgian coach lauded the young Scorpions, saying that the best team won.  "The hosts played their best football and utilised the possible chances they got thus earning their deserved victory," he said. "I expected this defeat because if you were reading the Namibian media, you would realise that we have more problems than we can handle. We were not ready for the Gambian team who are no doubt a formidable side and the final score said it all.

"I only saw my team yesterday [Friday]. We had no friendly games and no training camps for the past six months, and the Namibian league, which accommodates 90% of my players, is off for the past four months." "I am disappointed that we lost and I hope that my football association understands that we can’t prepare like this if we want to qualify," Concluded Coach Tom Saintfiet who insisted that all is not over yet for the Brave Warriors.
