District authorities trained on Local Gov't Act

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
The Dinding Bantaba, a community based organisation affiliated to Child Fund The Gambia, last Sunday held a training workshop for chiefs and alkalolu from Foni Brefet, Bintang Karanai and Kansala Districts on Local Government Act at the Dinding Bantaba headquarters in Sibanor, Western Region.

The training, which was funded by the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP), is aimed at sensitising district authorities on the Local Government Act of 2007. Speaking at the occasion, Buba Jeng, the manager of Dinding Bantaba, underscored the importance of the training, noting that it will help local authorities to better understand the 2007 Local Government Act. He said it will also update them on Gambia’s development process as well as enlighten them on the public institution decentralisation process, among others.

Pa Joof, the board chairman of Dinding Bantaba, thanked the district authorities for their participation and urged them to disseminate the information to their respective communities. The chief of Foni Bintang, Alhaji Mustapha Camara and Alhaji Junkung Camara, chief of Foni Berefet, both thanked the organisers of the workshop and commended the government of The Gambia under the leadership of President Jammeh for creating the enabling environment.
