DPP to publish book on "Gambia law of taxation" soon![]() Tuesday, December 22, 2009 Richard Chenge, the director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has disclosed that as a show of his love for the entire people of The Gambia, he would soon publish a comprehensive book on "The Gambia law of taxation". DPP Chenge made this disclosure during an interview with the Daily Observer at his office in Banjul. According to him, the book is in four volumes and that volume one, which has already passed through the printing press would soon be out. He said it is a comprehensive legal analysis of personal income tax law in The Gambia. He explained that the problem of administration of personal income tax law in The Gambia are thoroughly analysed, with a view to generating more revenue for the government. The DPP further revealed that volume two deals with company's income tax, volume three on sales tax whilst volume four deals with capital gain tax. According to him, when all these volumes are published, the book will be first of its kind in The Gambia and will serve as an authority to be used by the people of The Gambia on tax assessment issues and administration of tax laws. He said the first volume is soon to be published, while the other volumes will be published in succession. DPP Richard Chenge, who has a Masters Degree in criminal law, company law and the law of taxation, said he is going to initiate the teaching of law of taxation in the University of The Gambia, noting that the law of taxation is the most difficult aspect of law as it involves mathematics. He then observed that when the volumes are published, it will assist academic students studying for first degree, Masters Degree and PH.D in the law of taxation. "The book will also serve as a good guide to justices of the superior courts in adjudicating on cases relating to tax assessment when they do arise in The Gambia," he said.
