DPP’s guards arrest suspected drug traffickersMonday, February 08, 2010 The police guards posted at the Brusubi residence of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Richard Chenge, on Wednesday, arrested two suspected drug traffickers found with bundles of cannabis sativa commonly known as Jamba. DPP Richard Chenge told this reporter that the incident happened in the early hours of the morning, while the three policemen were patrolling the neighbourhood around his residence. “The guards came face-to-face with about 10 people, one of whom was carrying something they suspected to be cannabis sativa commonly known as Jamba,” he disclosed. The DPP further disclosed that when the security operatives accosted the 10 men, they became violent and a scuffle ensued. He said the officers arrested two of the men including the one having the cannabis, while the other eight ran away. The two arrested culprits, he added, offered the policemen cash amounting to D1, 600; thought to be money realised from the sale of cannabis, and begged to be set free. He explained that the officer heading the team cleverly recorded the conversation in his mobile phone and refused to accept the offer. The suspects, he said, were then brought to his residence. The DPP said he commended the policemen for their honesty and ordered that the suspects be escorted in his official vehicle along with the cannabis and money found in their possession to the police headquarters in Banjul where they were handed over to the Inspector General of Police, Ensa Badjie.
