africa » gambia
Thursday, April 23, 2009
The Bundung Magistrates Court, presided over by  Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara, on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced one Alagie Danso, to one year imprisonment without any option of a fine, after he was found guilty of negligent driving causing harm.

According to the prosecution, the convict, on the 5th of March 2009, at Tallinding Traffic Light around 2pm, drove in a reckless and negligent manner, thereby causing harm to one Mariam Camara, a police officer, after knocking her down.

Delivering her judgement, the acting principal magistrate told the court that the convict had endangered the life of the complainant. She therefore ordered him to pay a compensation of D5,000 to the complainant. She added that failure to pay the said amount will result in the convict serving another year of imprisonment.
