Dr.Tangara back as Higher Education ministerWednesday, April 25, 2012 Dr Mamadou Tangara, the minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters has been reassigned as minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology with immediate effect. A media release from State House yesterday announced that Dr Tangara replaces Dr Mariama Sarr-Ceesay, who has been relieved of her Cabinet appointment with immediate effect. The release reads: His Excellency The President of the Republic of The Gambia Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, acting under the provision of Section 71 (4) (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia has relieved Dr Mariama Sarr-Ceesay of her Cabinet appointment with immediate effect. In the same vein, His Excellency the President acting under the provisions of Section 71(1) and 71(3) respectively, of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia has reassigned Dr Mamadou Tangara as Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology with effect from 24th April 2012. The Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters is now under the purview of the Office of the President. Dr Tangara is not a stranger to the Higher Education Ministry as it was his first post when he joined the Cabinet in February 2010 , a position he held up to June 2010. He was later reassigned as minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, holding that portfolio from June 7th 2010 to 2nd February 2012 when the previous Cabinet was dissolved .He was re-appointed as minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad on 6th February, 2012.
