DSA, SYDO organise Islamic conference

Africa » Gambia
Friday, August 24, 2012

Dynamic Sarahulleh Association (DSA) in collaboration with Sarahulleh Youth Development Organisation (SYDO) recently organised an Islamic conference at the Libyan Mosque in Serrekunda. The religious gathering also saw the presentation of food items to Muslims as part of the two organisations’ commitment to share with the people.

Speaking at the ceremony, the national programme coordinator of SYDO, Alagie BK Sillah, explained that their organisation operates in different platforms with the objective of reviving their Sarahulleh culture. Underscoring that their organisation is contributing to national development through sports and culture, Sillah reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the development policies of the government of The Gambia, as well as providing a forum for increasing the awareness and the civic responsibility of its members for national development.

He further stated that part of their objectives is to initiate and execute development programmes designed to benefit the communities. He added: “Our aims are to preserve and promote the positive traditional and socio-cultural values and practices of the Sarahulleh community, promote youth programmes and activities; foster close cooperation with other associations, societies, organisations, groups and bodies in The Gambia and abroad.”

Also speaking at the event, the president of SYDO, Essa Conteh, said that as Muslims they have the urge to assist their fellow Muslims. He added that they have been organising the Islamic conference for the past five years.
