DSJ gives 100 computers to UTGThursday, February 25, 2010 David, Sharon and James Murray (DSJ) Shipping Hand Recycling Enterprise, on Tuesday donated 100 computers to the University of The Gambia (UTG) with other electronic equipment at the UTG campus in Brikama. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Sharon Greggans, a philanthropist from UK, said that the DSJ Shipping Hand Recycling is a family business enterprise based in UK, owned by David Greggans, Sharon Greggans and James Murray. She added it is a commercial business which was established in The Gambia since 2002 to help Gambian wholesalers and retailers to purchase their goods from UK. According to her, they were approached by Jane Mackenzie, who asked them to help the University of The Gambia with IT equipment. She also noted that these computers were brought from the UK because of the benevolent job of the UTG. "We decided to contribute our own quota in this noble and great institution for free of charge," she remarked. For his part, James Murray, another philanthropist of the DSJ Shipping Hand Recycling Enterprise, said that in addition to helping the UTG in 2009, they decided to sign an agreement with the World Health Organisation and the International Health Partnership to offer some medical items, books and laboratory equipment free of charge. For his part, Professor Muhammadou M.O. Kah, professor of Information Technology and Communications, and vice chancellor of the UTG, expressed delight at receiving the gesture from the DSJ Shipping Hand Recycling Enterprise. He described the university as a national treasure, adding that Gambians are blessed to have this noble university, which contributes immensely to the reduction of poverty enhances human capacity of the country. According to him, over 800 students have graduated in a short term from the university, and that, most of them are now occupying major places in all walks of life. He thanked the philanthropists on behalf of their able chancellor, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, the chairman of the UTG Governing Council, the staff and students for the gesture.
