Thursday, June 25, 2009
Officials of the Ecobank Gambia Limited led by its managing director, Fitzgerald Odonko, last Monday presented a cheque for D25,000 to the AFPRC General Hospital in Farafenni.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the hospital grounds, Managing Director Fitzgerald Odonko said the donation was mainly to contribute their quota to the development of the health sector and to support communities at the grass root level. He assured of their continuous response to national development. He further assured them that his bank will continue to support the hospital and the community of Farafenni at large.

According to him, Ecobank is in Farafenni to stay and that this gesture is just the beginning as more are in the pipeline. Lamin Gaye, head of Communication unit at Ecobank, welcomed the excellent relations between the hospital and his bank. According to him, Ecobank is a pan-African bank that is here to support its people in all areas of development.

Receiving the cheque, Sambujang Jagne, the AFPRC Hospital Board chairman, thanked Ecobank for their efforts and for donating this huge amount of money to the hospital. He assured them that the money will be put into good use. He saluted Ecobank for always boosting the health sector noting that the Farafenni hospital is serving many residents not only the people of Farafenni but even the nearby Senegalese villages. He then called on the people of the region to bank with Ecobank.

Malang Ndong, the hospital administrator, described the donation as timely and a step in the right direction. Health according to him, should be everybody's concern as without it, their will be no development. He urged other stakeholders to emulate Ecobank. Other speakers included Ramou Njie -Jagne and Omar Mbaye, all staff of Ecobank. Shortly after the ceremony, the officials were led on a conducted tour of the hospital.
