Ecosystem Expert calls for more tree planting

Africa » Gambia
Friday, September 18, 2009
Alhagie Manjang, an ecosystem expert with the department of parks and  wildlife management at abuko nature  reserve has called on the communities on the coast to plant more trees in  an effort to combat  the impacts of climate change.

He was presenting  a paper on  ecosystem at Tanji Village  during a sensitisation campaign  organised  by the African Network Of  Environment Journalists (ANEJ-Gambia), in collaboratin with National Environment Agency (NEA) and   UNDP. He  added that tree  planting  is important  in mitigating climate change  as it serve as carbon-sinks.

He went on to say the more trees we plant ,the better for humanity. Furthermore, Manjang called on the local  communities  living along the coastal areas to protect  Tanji Bird Reserve, which he said would provide more benefits   in the  near future.
