Egalitarian set to launch 3rd albumFriday, July 02, 2010 Modou Lamin Bah, better known by his music sobriquet Egalitarian, is set to launch his 15-track album anytime from now. The reggae dancehall giant, who is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated artistes in The Gambia in recent years, has been a household name in the country's entertainment circles. His rapid rise to stardom came after the successful release of his debut album in 2005 and since then, he has been in the spotlight to push his music to the next level. Since last year, Egalitarian has been working relentlessly on his groundbreaking album dubbed "Walk Around", which is expected to hit the streets in the coming weeks. Speaking at a press briefing last Monday organized under the auspices of Gainako Entertainment, at Alliance Franco Gambienne, the star revealed that the album is dedicated to children, saying that 30 percent of the money realised from sales will be given towards the Orphanage Children's Education and Operation Save a Baby'. "Which is to say, if D10, 000,00 is realized, D1, 500,00 will be given to the orphanage children and the other D1, 500,00 will also be given to Operation Save a baby.As an ambassador fervently committed to child Development, Women liberation and Youth participation, peace and social justice, I'm a member of Artist-United for Rap in Africa [AURA], a pro-child Organization under the auspices of Plan International, Dakar Senegal," he said. Egalitarian used the opportunity to thank Global Properties for their foresight and effort as the sole sponsors of the launching of the album as well as giving a plot of land to the would-be winner at the launching ceremony.Accepting the complements, Kumba Sinyan, a representative from Global Properties, expressed delight saying they are much obliged in ensuring the success of Gambian artistes.She pointed out that Global Properties sole aim is to ensure easy access of shelter to every Gambian. Gainako Foundation The Child Right Activist cum musician is not only active in the music scene, but used the occasion to introduce his foundation dubbed "Gainako Foundation".The objective of the foundation entirely dedicated for children's development, according to him, is to build clinics, liberate children, and give equal hospital access to vulnerable children in The Gambia. He continued: "I will ensure that every international musical performance I participate, 15 percent of the amount realised will be funded to Orphanage towards this foundation."He disclosed that he got the idea of setting up a foundation from Plan-International, a Netherlands-based child activist association, after he won a coveted trophy in the Senegalese city of Dakar in 2005. For his part, Ebou Gaye, Egalitarian's manager, disclosed that they have many projects for SOS Childrens Village and that one of it’s objectives is working together for the betterment of the Village. Omar Beyai, deputy director, SOS Children's Village, expressed delight at what he described as a move in the right direction. He added that in SOS they have children in three respects namely: The Orphanage children, Abandoned children and Children who live in destitution. He then called on Gambians to support this worthy course for the benefit of the society. Recast It could be recalled that Egalitarian started his solo career in 1997 with his popular slogan: Unifying people through sound, and later released his debut album called 'Fellow Sufferers' in 2005.Again, he dropped his second album entitled 'sufferation', in a short period of time, which was dedicated to HIV/AIDS and distributed for free. Since then he has traveled far and wide to countries such as Senegal, Mali, Togo, Benin, Guinea Conakry, France, Switzerland and Burkina Faso, where he attended a festival organised by the Prime Minister of the Country. Besides, he has in past years participated in a series of compilation mix tapes most notably, the popular 'One Gambia Part-2-produced in Sweden', 'Simplers Reggae Part [12]' produced by Reggae Magazines in France', 'Optimist Promotion' Produced in Senegal and Photo-Photo, an album produced by Plan-International with all Aura Members. Being a solo artiste, Egalitarian has appeared in television stations like the national broadcaster, GRTS TV, RDV in Senegal, Mali Television, Television Burkina Faso, Niger Television, and MTV Base among a host of others.
