ENC returns from Venezuela fiesta![]() Friday, August 17, 2012 One of the
Gambia’s sprouting reggae dancehall stars recently returned home after
representing the country at one of Venezuela’s Grand Festival, which was also
graced by other artists from around the globe. ENC together with another rising
sensations-Manding Morry, were among a 10-member Gambian delegation that
returned home after showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage in this
Latin American nation’s 4th annual International Cultural festival. The
international fiesta, which commenced from 22n d to 29th July 2012, in Caracas,
brought together people from diverse cultural spectrum, particularly West
Africa and Latin America, with the objective of, among other things, honouring
their African roots and its heritage. In an
interview with What’s On, ENC as widely called described the trip as a great
catalyst to his success, being the first Gambian dancehall artist to represent
his country in an international festival.“It makes me see the other side of the music world
both on structure and general diversity of music at large.” he said, while
revealing that, the trip was all financed by the Embassy of Venezuela to The
Gambia. He added: I
am giving a trend setting compilation CD mix tape which consists of 25 songs,
strictly classical dancehall songs, internationally promoted songs and
collaborations. When asked
about the personal impact the trip has, he stated: “It has given me a great
travel experience, transiting through a city like Spain is an eye opening spot
for me and the feedback and appreciation from my fans have been multiplied
simultaneously since I stepped out of the country and when I made my entry back
home. It has earned me respect in personality since being an international is a
lot of peoples dream, especially Gambia where travelling for an artist is
always a question.” He finally
urged his colleagues to make more internationalworks to ensuretheir music is exposed to other parts of the world. “I want to make more
international works to make sure my music is out there on the main stream which
is already going good in places like –US (Atlanta, Boston) London, Kingston
Jamaica and even in Kenya” he noted. ENC, who shot to stardom in recent years, equally challenged his counterparts to step in the same shoes with him in a bid to achieve more than he is, adding: “My advice to my fellow artists is to stop fighting each other and work as a family to get there. Let’s learn from each other and maintain respect, we shall surely be there.” Author: Zainab Faal | Media Actions See Also |
