Environmentalists hold workshop on CLAIM project

Stakeholders on the environment recently held a day's  workshop, on Community Livelihood Advancement through Integrated Environmental Management (CLAIM) project in Bwiam Foni Kansala.

The workshop drew participants from the NEA, Forestry, Department of Agriculture, Sulayman Junkung General Hospital, Local Government Authority and Saint Joseph's Family Farm as the custodians of the project.The workshop was aimed at sharing with these stakeholders the nitty-gritties of the project.In his welcoming remarks, Pierre Gomez, extension supervisor of Saint Joseph's Family Farm, said the sensitisation meeting was meant to share with stakeholders the project idea, rational,and key issues contained in the project and define clear roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder involved in the implementation of the project.

In his presentation, programme coordinator, Saint Joseph's Family Farm, Yankuba Manneh, said the CLAIM Project is a community- driven, community conceived project and it will beimplemented by the community. He noted that the goal of the project is to restore the eco-system for improved living standards of the people within the project area of Foni Bondali District.

Manneh further said that the strategic approach to the implementation of the project include; Creating linkages and networks with relevant stakeholders at all levels, Sensitization, awareness raising and training, community participation amongst others.The project is funded by United Nation Development Project under the Small Grand Programme of Global Environment Facility (GEF) project. And it has 12 months duration period.
