Essau UBS holds graduation ceremonyWednesday, July 28, 2010 Essau Upper Basic School in the Lower Nuimi District, North Bank Region, recently held its 4th graduation ceremony at the school grounds in Essau. The ceremony, which was attended by family members, staff of the school and well wishers witnessed the graduation of over 50 students. Speaking at the occasion, Malamin Fatty, the school based monitor, in his opening remarks told the children to give the elderly people the respect they deserve. He urged the grandaunts to be truthful, respectful, obedient and polite.He also implored on them to learn to be responsible and strive to acquire more skills to earn a better living. For his part, Alhagie Tabora Manneh, the chairman of the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) of the school, spoke at length on the characteristics of a good student, saying that knowledge cannot be attained in the absence of discipline. He challenged the parents to discipline their children at home before taking them to school and warned that the PTA won’t tolerate any abnormal behaviour on the part of the students. Speaking on behalf of the Principal, Yahya Mass, the vice principal of the school, expressed profound gratitude and appreciation at being given the singular honour to deliver a speech before the august gathering. He said the day was very remarkable in the history of the school because it successfully realised the accomplishment of the journey of yet another set of transition class since its inception in 2005. He noted that the historic event was a testimony of the continuous collaboration, role, love, and care that all stakeholders have for the school in a bid to ensuring quality and affordable education for all.He told the granduants to note that the world is very diverse and challenging, while urging them to learn, respect and have sympathy for others.
