Ex-female soldier charged with giving false information

One Yama Mendy, an ex-soldier, Thursday appeared before the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, presided over Principal Magistrate Taiwo Ade Alagbe, charged with one count of giving false information, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.


The particulars of the offence revealed that the accused, on or about 28th December 2011, wrote a letter to the Office of the President, stating that she was dismissed from the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) by one Lt. Ebrima Ngumfor refusing his sexual advancement, and also lodged the same complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman, the information she knew was false.


The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her in the court. The accused was granted bail in the sum of D50, 000 with one Gambian surety and the case was adjourned to 5th July 2012 for hearing.
