Ex-IGP testifies in Musa Suso caseMonday, July 20, 2009 The former Inspector General of The Gambia Police Force has made startling revelations in the false information trial of the former Kombo North National Assembly member, Musa Suso. Benedict Jammeh told the Bundung Magistrates Court, presided over by Magistrate Olajubutu Kayode, that in 2007, when he was the IGP, Ensa Badjie - now the IGP - told him about a carcass fed to prison inmates. Jammeh said he asked Ensa Badjie to investigate the matter, but Badjie kept on telling him that the CID officers were busy investigating the issue of the tractor and a generator (which the prison boss was said to have diverted to his personal use). He said that when that investigation was over, he again asked Badjie to take up the investigation, but Badjie told him to wait, when they were to do the auditing of the prison, the bull issue would be included. Continuing his testimony, Jammeh said that at that time, Ensa Badjie was the Crime Management Coordinator of the Gambia Police Force. The former IGP said Ensa Badjie never conducted that investigation until 2008. The defence counsel, Lawyer Lamin Jobarteh, then asked the witness whether the issue of the dead bull was finally investigated, and if yes, who were the members of the panel. Benedict Jammeh stated that Ensa Badjie, Yankuba Sonko, L Sanyang, Malamin Ceesay and Biran Jobe were part of the panel. When asked by the defense counsel what the panel's conclusion on the matter was, Jammeh said the conclusion of the panel was that the information given by Susso was true and it was collaborated by both prison officers and inmates at Mile 2. The former IGP said the report clearly stated that "David Charles Colley did fed inmates with the carcass of a dead bull". Jammeh added: "When I read the report, I was shocked. One of the prison officers said that the dead bull was swollen." At that stage, Magistrate Kayode adjourned the case to the 24th and 30th of July, and the 6th and 7th of August 2009.
