Ex-IGP's robbery trial adjourned -As witness arrives late

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, July 29, 2010
The criminal trial of the former IGP, Essa Badjie and Ali Ceesay, an ex-prison officer was adjourned yesterday by the presiding judge, Justice Joseph Enwa Ikpala, due to the late arrival of the ninth prosecution witness.

When the case was first called, DDPP Mikailu Abdulahi informed the court that he was awaiting the arrival of the prosecution witness, who was suppose to be brought from the Mile II central prison by the security personnel. The judge subsequently stood the case down for about 30 minutes and proceeded with the hearing of other cases.

He later adjourned the case to today at the end of the 30 minutes when the prosecution could not produce the witness before the court. It could be recalled that the prosecution had called nine witnesses, the last being Tony, the owner of the popular City Pub in Serekunda, who informed the court that he was Essa Badjie's best confidant.
