Fajara Rotary Club, others donate to the food aid basket![]() Thursday, August 30, 2012 The Rotary Club of Fajara, Wednesday donated a sum of D20, 000 towards the food aid basket, set up by government and partners to respond tolast year’s crop failure as a result oferratic rains. Established some years, the club, which has a growing membership, believes in caring and sharing in their crusade to make change in the society. Besides, the club is also supporting other humanitarian projects especially in the up country. Presenting the amount, Foday Sillah, the president of the Club explained that government having declared last year’s farming season as a failure, the Club deems it prudent to make a small contribution to assist the victims of the crop failure. “Your Excellency, Rotary believes in sharing and we the Rotary Club of Fajara feel that it is our duty not only as Rotarians but as citizens to complement efforts. We hope this small contribution will go a long way in helping the needy people of the country. During last rotary year, the club has sponsored five clean water and garden projects in the North Bank and Central River Regions, as well as sponsored some 25 needy and deserving students. The club is also embarking on some environmental protection programmes among other things, ” he disclosed. Sillah went further to reveal that the club in collaboration with their partners in Switzerland are planning to provide some major health equipment to RVTH and that they are also constructing a standard kitchen at Brikama Lower Basic School. The club he assured, will continue to help improve science and technology education in the country as the Gambian leader, who is also their honorary member and chief patron, has declared the year as the year of science and technology. Sillah used the opportunity to speak about their forthcoming Peace Forum scheduled to take place in 2013, in which other countries in the sub-region are expected to attend.
