Monday, January 19, 2009
Fandema Kafoo, a youth organization based in Bundung Borehole Farokono, last weekend held its annual congress at a ceremony held at Kaala Bantang Nursery School in Sukuta Nema.

The day-long occasion provided an opportunity for members to review their constitution and discuss matters relevant to the association. Speaking at the ceremony, Moriba Susso, the secretary general of the organisation,  disclosed that about 90 students from Arabic nursery, primary and tertiary institutions are currently benefitting  from sponsorship provided by the organisation.

According to him, the year under review has been a success, as they were able to embark on several sensitisation forums as well as cultural activities such as drama and dances. He thanked their Swedish counterparts - Palme International and others for their support towards the organisation. He finally appealed to all and sundry to support the organisation in order to achieve their aims and objectives.

Amie Sillah, a gender activist, who was the guest speaker, thanked the organisation, describing the event as very important. She noted that such gatherings manifest the significance of democracy at work. She then used the opportunity to caution the youths to pursue education and work towards the development of the nation rather than risking their lives on the illegal journey to Europe. "Do not go through the back way. Try the front door and if there is no chance, then come back and contribute your quota towards nation building," she advised.

Fatou Faye, the president of the organisation, thanked members for their dedication and commitment over the years. She highlighted the main objective of the organisation saying "our main objectives are to help children and youths to overcome problems that affect them".  Other speakers included Omar Jallow, honorary father of the organization.
