FAO boss due in Banjul todayThursday, July 08, 2010 The director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Dr. Jacques Diouf will arrive in Banjul today at 17:20 hours on a three-day working visit to the country. Dr. Diouf's visit, according to official sources, is meant to keep him abreast of the activities of FAO Gambia office and to map out strategies with the authorities on how his office can support agriculture and food security programmes in the country. As part of his three-day visit to the country, Dr Diouf is expected to hold talks with President Jammeh on Friday; he will also meet with the UN heads of agencies, donors and members of Diplomatic Corps as well as the minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad on the same day before holding a meeting with FAO Gambia office staff. The FAO boss will later on Friday afternoon meet Momodou S. Foon, Yusupha Kah and Abdou Kolley, ministers of Finance; Economic Planning and Industrial Development; and Trade ,Employment and Regional Integration, respectively. The FAO chief will have a meeting with the deputy minister of Agriculture, Kalifa Kambi, the minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters, Lamin Kabba Bajo; and the minister of Forestry and the Environment, Jato Sillah on Saturday. He is also expected to visit the Wellingara Horticultural Model Centre and the Rue Chicken Hatchery and Poultry Farm located in Latria Village in Kombo South. He is expected to meet with the officials of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, GIPZA, Agriculture Producers Organisation, Action Aid, Concern Universal and the Fisheries Department, among others.Dr Diouf will depart Banjul on Sunday 11 July at 20:00 hours for Dakar .
