Tuesday, February 07, 2012

Better Community Association (BCA), a local charitable organisation, last Friday, 3rd February 2012 donated an assortment of medical items worth over 2,000 Swiss Francs; learning materials and cooking utensils worth over D15, 000, to both the Farato Health Centre and the Good Shepherd Nursery School in Farato village, in the Kombo South District of West Coast Region.

The medical items included medication for treatment of high blood pressure, heart disorders, asthma and fungal infections.

Whilst the learning materials and cooking utensils included writing boards, learning charts, large cooking pots, metal and wooden utensils, spoons, plates, cup, buckets, pans and kettles.

On presenting the items, the president of the organisation, Joy Buchanan, disclosed that the mission of the BCA is to promote and participate in all aspects of national development programmes and initiatives in The Gambia. She asserted that the association is conscious of the need to contribute to the efforts of nation building and to improve the quality of the lives of the people.

Buchanan then informed that adequate structures are in place so as to equip and supply the health centre in the future. She however pointed out that the school needs chairs, tables and other items which may be provided in the future by the Better Community Association. She expressed hope that the donated items would help both the teachers and friends of the school to feed and care for their children; whilst the medication would assist the people in the locality to improve the quality of their lives.

Meanwhile, the teachers, Adama and Josephine and supporters who gratefully received the donated items, assured the organisation that the items would be put into good use.
