Fatal accident claims life

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, July 21, 2009
A fatal accident involving a truck and a private Golf vehicle with registration number BJL 8157 has claimed the life the driver of the latter vehicle, who according to reliable sources is one Dr Agie.

The victim, who is said to be a staff of the polyclinic in Banjul, was confirmed dead at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul. The incident, which occurred around 2pm around the Bakau New Town main roundabout junction shocked the dozens of onlookers. Eyewitnesses told the Daily Observer that yesterday's accident came hard on the heels of a similar accident in Bakau Newtown, which they alleged was caused by the same driver.

Pa Njie, an eyewitness, explained to the Daily Observer that the heavy truck was coming from Bakau and heading towards Banjul at a very high speed, and hit the Golf vehicle that was trying turning towards Bakau from direction of the stadium. " I was just from performing ablution to go to the mosque when I saw the truck driving at a very high speed. Due to that high speed, he couldn't manage to stop hitting the Golf vehicle at the turn table even though the driver in the other vehicle tried as much as possible to avoid the accident," he explained, while noting that the accident could have been avoided if the driver had limited his speed while approaching the junction.
