FIFA-GFA coaching course underway

africa » gambia
Monday, March 16, 2009
A week-long training course for Gambia football coaches commenced yesterday at the National Technical Training Center at Yundum.

Jointly organised by the Gambia Football Association in collaboration with the world football's governing body (FIFA), the training has brought together 28 football coaches drawn from the Gambia Football Association first and second division clubs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the first vice-president of the Gambia Football Association, Major-General Langtombong Tamba described coaching as an integral part of football. Describing the training as worthy and timely, the GFA No 2 is of the hope that the advanced course will give Gambian football coaches the chance to learn new skills for the good of the game.

He therefore heaped praises on the world football's governing body its continuous partnership and support to the Gambia Football Association. In conclusion, the army chief called on the Gambian public to remember the Gambia Under 17 team who are presently in Algeria for the 2009 African Under 17 Championship starting on Thursday.

The course instructor, Urban De Kock of South Africa, is confident that the training will expose the participants to the new techniques in modern football coaching. The Director of Youth and Sports, Malang Jasseh, who deputised for the Youth and Sports supremo, Mr Sheriff Gomez, urged the participants to make good use of the training.
