Fire destroys building at Q’uranic school in Mandinary

The spate of fire outbreaks in the country in recent timesshow no signs of abating with the latest fire disaster destroying a whole classroom block of a Q’uranic Memorisation and Boarding School in Mandinary village, Kombo North, West Coast Region.


Speaking in an interview with the Daily Observer, the principal of the school, Oustass Abubacarr Saidy revealed that the fire started at around 03:30am in the morning, apparently emanating from a candle.


“No one sustained an injury but it took us two and half hours to extinguish the blaze,” he stated, while indicating that his school has a record number of 350 enrolled students. 


“The block that was burnt is where some of the students are sheltered in. I am appealing to the general public to assist us both in kind and cash because a lot has been consumed by the fire,” Saidy added.


The alkalo of the village, Fah Ceesay, also joined the principal in appealing for urgent assistance to enable the students get over the mishap.
