Fire ravages Alkali Kunda compound

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, January 12, 2010
A compound belonging to one Mamadi Janko, was recently ravaged by a serious fire disaster in Alkali Kunda, Upper Baddibu, North Bank Region.

The fire outbreak resulted to the loss of food stuff, beds, bed sheets, shoes, bed nets, clothes, mobile phones, 4 bags of groundnut and learning materials for children, among others. After the incident, the Katchang ward councillor, Tamba Marong, visited the family of Mamadi Janko in Alkali Kunda to show solidarity on behalf of Kerewan Area Council for the recent fire outbreak of which, the whole compound was burnt to ashes.

Marong also used the opportunity to appeal to National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) through the Regional Disaster Management Committee for the provision of humanitarian services and addressing the plight of the affected family. He thanked the people of Alkali Kunda for providing humanitarian assistance to the affected family by evacuating them on time, and by preventing the fire from spreading to other areas.

In response, Mamadi Janko, the landlord of the affected family, thanked the ward councillor for the visit. He said his family has nothing to rely on as they lost all their farm produce. He therefore appealed to individuals, organisations and philanthropists to come to their aid. Anyone willing to help can contact the ward councillor on 6577734.
