Fire ravages Basse apartment

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, June 18, 2009
A fire outbreak gutted down an apartment in the early hours of last Friday. The apartment was inhabited by one Ousainou Touray in Basse near the famous Safra Hotel in the URR capital.

According to eye witnesses, the fire started around 4am when everyone was in bed, while the occupant of the affected apartment was sleeping outside the house, due to the hot weather.

Speaking to our correspondent in Basse, Ousainou Touray, the victim, said when the fire broke out he was not inside the house and that it was fortunate that his wife and none of the family members were inside.  He could not identify the cause of the fire, but believed that it has to do with electricity.

According to Touray, all items and materials in the house were destroyed. Giving thanks to God and hailing the Basse Fire Service for their rapid response, he also appealed for help as the incident has set him back.
