First Lady visits more health facilitiesThursday, June 14, 2012 The First
lady of the Republic Wednesday toured more health facilities within the Greater
Banjul Area. Among the
facilities Her Excellency Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh visited were the Poly Clinic
in Banjul, Bakau Health Centre and the Serekunda General Hospital. She was
accompanied on the tour by the minister of Health and Social Welfare, Fatim
Badjie; the minister of Basic and Secondary Education Fatou Lamin Faye, and
other senior government officials. Her first
port of call was the Poly Clinic in Banjul where she was received by the chief
medical director of Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH), Dr Ousman Nyan,
and staff of the clinic. She visited the Dental, Psychiatric, Audiology, Skin and STI, Chest, Mini-laboratory, Antenatal and Pharmacy Units in the Clinic. From the Poly Clinic the First Lady and delegation proceeded to Bakau Health Centre where she was received by the officer-in-charge of the facility, Kebba Sonko and other staff. She was then taken on a conducted tour of the facility. Madam Jammeh wrapped-up Wednesday’s tour with a visit to Serekunda General Hospital where she was received by the chief executive officer of the hospital, Malang Ndong who highlighted the achievements and challenges of the hospital in 2010 through a power point presentation. Shortly after the presentation, the First Lady visited the Radiology Unit for a CT scan. She also visited the Pharmacy, the Paediatric Ward, Accident and Emergency Unit, the Maternity Ward, Medical Female Ward and the Theatres, among other wards within the hospital.
