Foday Kunda ward nomination date set

Following the vacancy of the Foday Kunda ward councillor seat due to the death of the previous holder, Yaya Kanteh, the Independent Electoral Commission, has announced the date for the nomination of candidates for the said seat.

This information was contained in a press release signed by the vice chairman of the IEC, Malleh Sallah. The full text of the release is produced below.

In accordance with Section 53 subsection (a) of Decree 78 of 1996, the Independent Electoral Commission will conduct a by-election on Thursday 18th December to fill the vacant position of National Assembly member for Nianija Constituency.

Following the demise of the Councilor for Foday Kunda Ward, the late Yaya Kanteh, the Independent Electoral Commission will hold nomination on 18th December 2008 to fill the said vacant seat in the Basse Area Council at the IEC Regional Office in Mansajang Kunda, Basse.

The elections will be held on Thursday, 8th January 2008.
