Foni commemorates May Day

Workers from Bullock to Kalagie in the Fonis, West Coast Region,  on Sunday gathered in Kanilai Village, Foni Kansala District, to commemorate the Workers Day, popularly known as May Day.

Addressing the gathering in Kanilai, the governor of West Coast Region, Alhaji Lamin Sanneh, highlighted the significance of May Day, saying that every year, the 1st of May is set aside to commemorate the historic struggle of the working class throughout the world. He said workers must recognise and commemorate May Day not only for its historical significance, but also as a time of refelctio on issues affecting them, particularly those at the grassroots level.

Governor Sanneh spoke at length on the importance of the May Day celebration. The National Assembly member for Foni Kansala, Hon. Sheriff Abba Sanyang, reiterated Governor Sanneh's remarks about the May Day celebration. He commended all the institutions participating in the event for their dedication towards nation building.

The chairperson of the organising committee, Antony B. Jammeh and the chief of Foni Kansala, both commended the organising committee for the initiative.
