Tuesday, April 24, 2012

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) on Monday, April 16, started food item distribution within the five most affectedCentral River Region districts by last season’s crop failure.

The WFP team called on the regional governor and were led to the office of the governor by the regional disaster coordinator, Bubacarr Fofana. They briefed the governor about the distribution, challenges and mapped the way forward.

The CRR Governor Alhaji Ganyie Touray applauded WFP, saying that they have been assisting victims of the flash flood during the past years. He noted that the food items would mitigate farmers’ hardship.

The regional disaster coordinator, Bubacarr Fofana said that there are 11 distribution centers and they are as follows: in Lower Saloum, the distribution centers are at Ballangharr, Kaur; in Upper Saloum the centers are at Panchang, Njau; for Niamina East, Kudang and Jareng, each having two distribution centers; Upper Fulladuhas four distribution centers in Sare Soffie, Daru, Sukurr Kunda, and Galleh Manda; and Janjangbureh has one.

Fofana further explained that the villages are divided among these distribution centers in order to make things easy for the beneficiaries. He called on them to cooperate with the distribution team in order to make the distribution a success, andappealed to the district chiefs to disseminate the information to all the Alkalolu so that they can report to their centers.
