Former independent candidate makes APRC switch

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, December 01, 2009
Pa Sainey Jallow, a one time interpreter for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) since 1983, and an independent candidate who contested in the 2007 National Assembly elections for the Serekunda East seat, has defected to the ruling APRC party.

Jallow made this revelation recently in an interview with the Daily Observer at its office, located on the Gacem Road, Kanifing Industrial Area.
According to Mr. Jallow he has never been a member for the United Democratic Party (UDP) nor contested elections for them.  He said it was the PPP party leader, Omar Jallow (OJ), who introduced him to the UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe,  and that was when he started work as an interpreter for the UDP.

According to him, on the 27th of October 2009, he made some serious considerations and analysis, and finally decided to move to the APRC party. “It is the party that has momentum and focuses its ideas on national development,” he stated. According to him, this has been in the making since May 2009, and he believes it is now time for him to resign from the PPP and join ranks with a more advanced and progressive party.

He noted that it has come to his knowledge that the APRC party under the able leadership of President Yahya Jammeh is working for national development. He said since he cross-carpeted to the APRC party, he has been going around his constituency, Serekunda East, calling people to join the APRC party.
