GAF embarks on cleaning exercise

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, August 12, 2010
Over 100 soldiers from the Fajara Barracks last Saturday, embarked on a massive cleaning exercise in Bakau Newtown.

Speaking to the Daily Observer shortly after the exercise, warrant officer 2, Pa Karamo Manneh of the Fajara Barracks, said that as soldiers, their responsibilities do not only stop at saving life and property but also to clean the environment. He said the 'Operation clean the nation' is a good initiative as far as health is concerned and therefore  urged all Gambians to participate in the monthly clean-ups as the country belongs to all and sundry.

Lieutenant Cham Samateh of the  Guards Batallion , commended his colleagues for participating in the monthly cleaning exercise. "It is important for us to participate in cleaning the nation. The place we are cleaning is a highway, which has gutters on both sides and are full of sand. So there is a need to remove the sand to enable the easy flow of water," he concluded.
