GAF gets new PRO

Thursday, February 25, 2010
Lieutenant Pierre Beyai has been appointed as the public relations officer of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).

He replaces Lt Omar B Bojang who is said to have commenced a four-year LLB programme at the University of The Gambia sponsored by GAF. Confirming his appointment to the Daily Observer yesterday at his office at GAF headquarters in Banjul, Lieutenant Beyai vowed to maintain and cement the already existing civil-military relationship between the general public and GAF. He further assured of his readiness to establish a good working relationship with the press and continue the good job of the outgoing PRO, Lt Bojang who occupied the position for two years.

The new PRO further assured of his readiness to face the challenges, saying that the position was given to him out of trust and confidence. He then stressed the importance of GAF to the nation. "The Gambia Armed Forces is a noble institution, no nation can do well without the security," he noted, adding that GAF has been involved in peacekeeping missions all over the world.

Lieutenant Beyai was born to a Christian Manjago family on 17 July 1978 at Busumbala Village. He attended St Francis Primary School in Tawuto Village, where he sat for the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examinations in1992. He gained admission to St. Peters Technical Junior Secondary School, Lamin in1995, and later proceeded to St.   Peter’s Senior Secondary School.

He started his military career as an Infantry-man in February 2000, before he won His Excellency Col (Rtd) Sheikh Professor Alhaji DrYahya AJJ Jammeh’s scholarship to study for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Development Studies and English Language at the University of The Gambia.
