Gam-Music Promotions releases new compilation riddim

Africa » Gambia
Friday, January 13, 2012
A UK-based webpage, which aims to promote Gambian music out to those in the Diaspora and other nationalities, has recently released its new riddim compilation video, entitled ‘Baby Tildaz Riddim’.  The Gam-Music Promotions, according to Ousman Touray, a Gambian born and based in the United Kingdom, who doubles as a music promoter, explained that the new master project ‘Baby Tildaz’ named after Baks Saho’s daughter, main theme is for the children.

With over 30 artists included in the riddim, he explained further that they chose to select it from the artists based in the Gambia so that it would be easier to shoot the video in the country. He added “We only have Ooz and Ghetto Solja, as artists based outside The Gambia. Ghetto Solja did his part in Spain while for Ooz, we used his 2010 Open Mic Festival performance,” he added.

Disclosing the new release, he said: “We have finally released the Baby Tildaz Riddim Medley video, as we decided to make a video before releasing the promo CD with all the songs on it and it’s for free.” He added that another riddim would be out soon but it’s going to be a big surprise.

He further revealed that having the biggest Gambian music database on the web, the Gam Music Promotions is set to spread the Gambian music out to the Diaspora, complying with its main purpose to link the Gambian music scene with the Gambians abroad and other nationalities, “Its amazing how others appreciate our music and the amount of awareness we create is ecstatic,” he disclosed.

In existence since 2008 and along the years meeting up with lot of artists, producers and djs, Gam Music Promotions, he added managed to drop their first ever riddim compilation in 2010 stressing that the riddim entitled ‘GMP Riddim’, was launched in 2010 with also over 30 different artists including artists from Ghana, Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom and Jamaica.

Commenting on his 2012 programmes, Ousman said that this year is going to be very fruitful, stating that they have lot of proposals and many people have approached them with positive ideas that together they can work on. Hosting the online voting of the just recent Gambia ShowBiz and Fashion Awards, organised by the renowned entertainment and events management firm, Waka J Productions, Ousman Touray added, “We work with anyone who promotes Gambian music and the whole idea of the event was to promote Gambian musicians, presenters etc, and all these people and establishments support Gambian music, so we hosted the vote on our website, and Waka has been supportive to us from the beginning.”

He then used the opportunity to urge Gambians to start supporting our own, “be it music or any other industry or sector, lets be the change we want to see in The Gambia and the world at large,” he concluded.
