Gambia climb in Fifa rankings![]() Thursday, August 06, 2009 The Gambia have moved up one place in the latest world rankings released by the world football's governing body (FIFA), yesterday. The Scorpions, who were ranked 99th on the global standings last month, have now moved a place up to 98th but still dropped one place below from 24th to 25th on the African standing. Since the high-profile arrival of Belgian Coach Paul Put, the Gambia have been in a constant state of improving and in June 2009, the country celebrated their highest placing of 65th and 12th in the World and African stages respectively. However, the Scorpions lack of action since their historic 1-1 draw against Senegal in October last year in the final day of the first round qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, has seen their standing deteriorating.
