Gambia Navy conducts inter-vessel competition

The Gambia Navy last Tuesday conducted an inter-vessels competition aimed building the crèmes confidence and enhance their competency to ensuring efficiency in their duty.

The competition was done with the four newly acquired vessels donated by Republic of China on Taiwan, held at the Naval Fleet Command at the Banjul Sea Port. Speaking at the ceremony, Richard Shih, the Taiwanese ambassador to the Gambia, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to work with the Gambia Navy and the Armed Forces. The Taiwanese diplomat informed the gathering that the vessels are in good condition and that they would help to execute their duty within the territorial waters of the country. He advised them to make good use of the vessels in serving the purpose.

The Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces Lieutenant General Masanneh Kinteh, thanked the government of Taiwan for the support they are rendering to the Gambia Armed Forces. He recalled the numerous interventions of the Taiwanese government in such areas of education, agriculture, health among others. He urged the officers to ensure that, “our water waves are safe and secured,” adding that patrols also play a very significant role in the defences of the country. “Our responsibility as soldiers is not just to save the economy and the resources, but also to look after problems that would affect our society,” he said.

CDS Kinteh congratulated both groups for participating and the winning group Musa Maliya Jammeh group. Commodore Sarjo Fofana, the chief of Naval Staff also spoke at the occasion while Madani Sengore gave the welcome remarks. The four group that participated in the competition were Musa Maliya Jammeh group who emerged as first position went away with D10,000 with a giant trophy, Kinda Kamara, the second winning group received D5,000, the third winning group, Taipei received D3,000 while Kunta Kinteh, the forth winning group received D2,000 only.
