Gambia -Senegal friendly Saturday

The Gambia Under 17 team will take on their Senegal counterparts in a warm-up match fixed for Saturday, July 25, at the Independence Stadium.

The friendly match will Baby Scorpions' first competitive friendly match since winning the African U-17 Championship trophy earlier this year in Algeria. The Senegalese team, which failed to qualify for the 2009 World Youth Championship finals, arrived in Banjul yesterday ahead of the tie that will also form part of Baby Scorpions's preparatory campaign for the 24-team championship in Nigeria in October 2009.

After the weekend match, the Gambian team are travel to Dakar for the return leg scheduled for August 25. Meanwhile, the president of the Gambia Football Association, Seedy Kinteh, has confirmed that arrangements are ongoing for the Gambian youth team to face Nigeria in a warm-up match in Banjul.

The coach of Nigeria's  team John Obuh has told Goal.com that they are scheduled to take on two-time champions Gambia as part of their build-up for the competition they will host in less than four months. And Kinteh confirmed both sides have a knowledge of the proposed friendly, hinting that he is now waiting on his Nigerian counterparts to come up with a fixed date.
