Tuesday, October 06, 2009
On December 5th, The Gambia will host the Top Model of Colour (TMC) competition, an international modeling competition organised by the Mahogany Group in the UK.

In The Gambia, the event will be hosted by Fabec's Promotions and as at now, Senegambia Beach Hotel is the chosen ground. Fatima Jabbie, director of Fabec's Promotions, who is the liaison between the Mahogany Group and The Gambia, in an interview with the Daily Observer said that preparations are currently on high gear for the realization of the success of the event. Since April, she went on, Fabec's Promotions has had several discussions with the Gambian leader, who had directed them to work with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

According to Jabbie, the Mahogany Group is involved in different things such as gathering models from different countries. Out of all the models from the different countries, she said, only fifty will contest in the final competition in The Gambia. Jabbie further expressed optimism that The Gambia's hosting of the event will be a historic one.

She diclosed that three Gambians will take part in the competition, two of whom are currently in the UK with the third in the country. With the blessing and support of His Excellency, the president and the Gambian people, Jabbie said, the event will be a success. According to her, proceeds from the event, will be donated to the Jammeh Foundation for Peace and the Women's Federation. She said that rigorous preparations are currently underway in the UK.
The purpose of the even, she added, is to bring awareness to the world about how coloured models are treated. Director Jabbie finally revealed that the UK team will be arriving in The Gambia on 2nd of December and will leave on the 9th of the same month.
