Gambia U-17 leave for Dakar friendly![]() Thursday, August 13, 2009 The Gambia U-17 team will leave Banjul today for Dakar, where they will take on their Senegalese counterparts in a return leg friendly encounter. The game, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, comes barely three weeks when the two sides drew 1-1 in the Banjul first leg tie. Saturday's fixture is part of the Baby Scorpions' preparation for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup starting in Nigeria on October 24. Seedy Kinteh, president of the Gambia Football Association, has told Observer Sports that the Gambian team will return to Banjul on Sunday after the weekend's match before heading to Nigeria the following day for the six-team international U-17 football tournament in Nigeria. Kinteh said the initial plan for the team to connect to Nigeria via Dakar could not materialize due to the change of travel arrangements. The Baby Scorpions will travel to Nigeria with 16 players and four officials and will join teams from Ghana, Benin, Sierra Leone and two academies from the host country Nigeria for the five-day warm-up tournament. There will be medals for the first, second and third place teams. There will also be trophies for the 16 most valuable players, highest goal scorer, the team with the best defence, the best attacking team but there will be no cash prices.
