Gambia win Minnesota African soccer tourney

A Gambian team in Minnesota, United States of America, have emerged champions of an annual African football event organized by African Vision 360.

The competition gathered teams comprising of different African nationals including Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Eritrea. The Gambian team - popularly known as the Scorpions - defeated the defending champions Liberia's Lone Stars 4-1 to lift the coveted trophy.

In addition to winning the main trophy, Gambia's top striker, Lamin Sambou, who netted two of Gambia's four goals in the final, was named as tournament's Most Valuable Player. Ghana's Black Stars, who dropped out at the group stages, consoled themselves with the Most Discipline Team award.
