As the hunt for young Gambian players in the diaspora continues, another young and promising Gambian starlet has been discovered.

Sam Jammeh who is gifted with great natural jump and positioning in the goalmouth is kicking in the fold of FC Viikingit of Finnish First Division league and is the first Gambian goalkeeper to be spotted in the diaspora. The 18-year-old, who was born in Finland of a Gambian father and Finnish mother, has spent all his years in Scandinavia but is keen to come to the Gambia to feature for the Gambia national youth teams before climbing the ladder to the Scorpions fold. "I have always yearned to play for the Gambia, my father?s homeland. I love Gambia a whole lot", the gifted teenager, who is presently in the country with his Finnish mother for a three-week holiday, told Observer Sports.

The youngster, who has almost everything one would desire in a top class goalkeeper, further narrated that he religiously follow Gambian football and was very glad to watch the Gambia U-17 team clinched the CAF U-17 championship crown in Algeria before heading to the FIFA U-17 World Cup finals in Nigeria as African flag bearers. During his brief visit to Banjul, Sam spent some times with Gambia?s premier tier side Steve Biko FC and he said he cannot wait to feature for Gambia, and is itching to get the chance to come for country. "My game maturity has grown. I have made vast improvement in several areas of my game. I hope to play in top European leagues in not too far in the future but that hope is second to my dream of featuring for the Gambia," A positive minded Sam Jammeh further revealed.

During a brief training session with Steve Biko, Sam?s incredible goalkeeping ability puzzled many onlookers including Steve Biko?s head coach Abdoulie Bojang. "I watched him played and I must admit that, despite his young age, he is a brilliant goalkeeper in all other terms bar height and aerial ability," Bojang, who was amazed by the teenager?s decent saves, said of him. He added: "We must brace ourselves for the rise of this incredible youngster who can be a major star in the coming years." According to those that know him well in Finland, Sam is a polite guy who is confident on the pitch and has been given a steady upbringing by his parents. All the ingredients seem to be in place for Sam to emerge as star goalkeeper for a big club in a major European league.
