Gambian murdered in US![]() Tuesday, August 24, 2010 One Muhamadou Touray, a 35-year-old Gambian from Dasilameh
village in the Upper River Region (URR) recently met his untimely death in
Atlanta, the United States after being assaulted with a hammer by his cousin,
one Hagie Kumba Cham, 44. The deceased Touray was the owner of a clothing store, and had been resident in the US for 16 years up to the time of his death. Police from the College Park Police Department in the USA said they received a call on Saturday evening, August 7th 2010 at about 18:15 about a fight at No. 2660 Godby Road, College Park GA30349 and upon arrival at the scene of the crime, the late Touray was found lying on the ground unconscious and bleeding. "A very large pool of blood was at his head and continuing to grow. It appeared he was struck on the top of his head with a heavy blunt object and the said object was reported to have been a hammer. Visible pieces of what appeared to be a skull fragments and brain were mixed into the blood as well," police sources revealed. Touray, who recently returned from a visit to his native country, The Gambia, was rushed to the Grady Memorial hospital where he was later pronounced death. Medical reports indicated that his liver was lacerated due to a severe blunt trauma. This was attributed to the hammer the accused allegedly used to hit him on the head. According to police, a serious manhunt was mounted while a couple of witnesses were interviewed, which led to the arrest and subsequent detention of one Hagie Kumba Cham, a cousin to the deceased. Police sources also disclosed that Hagie Kumba Cham confessed killing the deceased. The accused was also confirmed to have an active warrant at Hall County prior to his murder charge arrest, but police would not go into specifics about the nature of the earlier offence.The late Muhamadou Touray was the son of one Nyima Cham whose brother is the father to the accused, Hagie Kumba Cham.
