Gambian referee attends CAF course

Africa » Gambia
Friday, November 20, 2009
Gambia’s FIFA and CAF licensed assistant assistant referee, Jawo Dickory, has been invited to attend the Confederation of African Football Elite Referees and Assistant referees' course in the Egyptian city of Cairo.

Jawo, who left Banjul yesterday, will join CAF/FIFA Instructors and more than 25 selected referees and assistant referees from across the continent for the five-day course scheduled between November 21 and November 25, 2009. One of the main objectives of the Cairo gathering, Observer Sports has gathered, is to inform referees of few modifications and interpretation of the laws of the game.

The continental football’s governing body has asked that each selected referee must arrive at the course in the best physical condition as there will be medical examinations and physical fitness tests before the beginning of the course. Commenting on Jawo Dickory’s selection for the high-profile training, Badou Jasseh, the president of the Gambia Football Referees Association, said the participation of a Gambian referee in the course signifies the trust and confidence CAF has in Gambian referees.

He said that assistant referee Dickory will do himself good if he excels at the course, hinting that the Cairo gathering could determine the African referees that will qualify to officiate in the next summer’s FIFA World Cup finals holding in South Africa.
